What this covers
This policy explains what Side Quest Life ("the app", "we") collects when you use the app, why, and what control you have over it. It applies to the mobile app and its web version.
What we collect
Account: an email address only if you choose to create an account with one — the app also works with an anonymous session that has no email attached. Either way the app creates a unique account identifier (a random ID) so it can save your quests and memories and show them back to you. An anonymous session has no name or email on it, but it is still an identifier, so we treat it as personal data. Our hosting provider may also log technical data such as IP addresses to keep the service running and secure.
Preferences: which quest categories you are interested in — picking at least one is required to finish onboarding — plus your pace, intensity, and two baseline scale answers (how connected you feel to nature, how often you feel isolated). The last four start at a neutral default if you skip past them without choosing, and you can change any of these anytime from Progress → Edit preferences. Used only to personalize quest suggestions for you.
Content you create: which quests you start or finish, any notes and photos you add to a memory, and free-text answers you type while completing a quest step. Photos are stored in a private bucket that only your own account can read — nobody else using the app can reach them. The app only opens your camera or photo library after you grant permission, and only for the photo you are adding.
Usage data: basic app-usage events (e.g. "quest started," "memory saved") tied to your account, used only to understand how the app is used and improve it. This is first-party only — we do not use any third-party analytics, advertising, or cross-app tracking SDKs, and nothing you do here is shared with ad networks.
Why we collect it, and on what legal basis
To run the app (save your progress, show your memories back to you), to personalize which quests get recommended to you, and to understand and improve how the app works. We do not use your data for advertising and do not sell it to anyone.
Under GDPR: running the app and keeping your account, quests and memories is processed to perform our agreement with you. Understanding how the app is used so it can be improved is processed under our legitimate interest, which is why that data is first-party only and is never shared with advertisers or used to track you across other apps.
Who we share it with
Your data is stored with Supabase, our database and authentication provider, acting as our data processor — they host the data on our behalf and do not use it for their own purposes. Data is stored in Frankfurt, Germany (AWS eu-central-1), inside the European Union. We do not sell or share your data with advertisers or other third parties.
How long we keep it
For as long as your account exists. You can permanently delete your account and everything tied to it at any time from Progress → Delete account, in the app — this is immediate and cannot be undone.
Your rights
You can access, correct, or export your data by contacting us, and delete your account yourself at any time (see above). If you are in the EU/EEA, this includes the rights guaranteed under GDPR: access, rectification, erasure, restriction, portability, and objection.
Children
Side Quest Life is intended for adults and is not directed at anyone under 18. Some quests involve activities such as bungee jumping, solo travel and sleeping outdoors that are not suitable for minors. We do not knowingly collect data from anyone under 18.
